After it was discovered in the last half of the 1700s, a slow transformation into a mountain health retreat followed. It was pure chalybeate mineral water known for its healing powers, better known as the famous Schooley’s Mountain Spring. We provide consultation as part of the food facility plan review process for remodeling and/or new construction.There was treasure in Schooley’s Mountain here, but it wasn’t gold. Plan reviews and field inspections are required for construction or remodeling of all retail food establishments. Retail food establishments categorized as “Risk Type” 2 or 3 must also have a certified Food Protection Manager on staff. These certificates, which are good for three years, may be obtained through the health department or through an accredited certifying agency. Township ordinance requires that all employees who handle food in a retail food establishment maintain a current food handler’s certificate. Applications for temporary food establishment licenses are available on the Township’s “documents” page and must be submitted to the Health Department a minimum of two weeks prior to the event. Annual food establishment license applications must be obtained through the Health Department. Reports of foodborne illness and incidents involving flood, fire, and loss of utility services to food establishments are also investigated.Īll retail food establishments, including mobile and temporary facilities, must be licensed. All food and drinking establishments are licensed and inspected annually or more frequently if required. The health department’s retail food surveillance program incorporates inspections as well as education and enforcement for ensuring safe food handling practices.
